Minnesota Library 2.0 Summit
Yesterday, I attended the Minnesota Library 2.0 Summit, co-sponsored by Health Sciences Libraries of Minnesota (HSLM) and the Minnesota Chapter of SLA. Michael Stephens (of Tame the Web and Dominican University) was the featured speaker. I need to read through my notes and ruminate a bit, but here are some initial impressions:
- The Introduction to Library 2.0 morning session consisted of pretty standard fare, but probably provided a necessary foundation of Library 2.0 philosophy and history to those in the room who haven't been reading the literature and biblioblogs.
- I found the Best Practices in Social Software for Libraries afternoon session to be substantive, specific and useful regarding how libraries can and could use Web 2.0 tools such as wikis, blogs, RSS feeds, tagging, gaming and Second Life to enhance and provide library services.
- I came away newly inspired to blog in earnest, with about fifteen ideas for posts.
- I had hoped to be presented with more models of how medical libraries are using Web/Library 2.0 tools.
- I enjoyed chatting and networking with the mix of academic librarians, public librarians, medical librarians, special librarians and MLIS students who attended.
- Michael Stephens really does have the most fabulous hair.
HSLM and especially Melissa Rethlefsen deserve hearty congratulations on a job well done.
